MAPLE SOFT
A hard-textured, straight-grained hardwood. Color: cream. Not as strong as hard maple. Very good for furniture and woodturning - can be worked to a fine, crisp-edged finish.
MAPLE HARD
A hard-textured, close-grained hardwood. Color: cream brown to golden brown. Dense and polishes well.
BIRCH
Medium textured, straight-grained hardwood. Color: white to pale brown. Soft and easy to work.
BEECH
A heavy, strong, straight-grained hardwood. Color: creamy white with close even grains. Low in strength and durability works and carves very well.
ASH
A very tough, long grained hardwood. Color: pale honey with marked growth ring figure. Good working and bending properties, excellent finish.
WALNUT
A coarse-textured, straight-grained hardwood. Color: dark brown with purple tints. It is very good to work with.
POPLAR
An even-textured, straight-grained hardwood. Color: creamy white to brown. Good for interior woodwork and furniture. Easy to work and can be brought to a good, crisp-edged finish.
MAHOGANY
A straight but loose-grained hardwood. Color: red to dark brown. Good for both interior and exterior work.
CHERRY
A straight-grained hardwood. Color: reddish brown with pale sapwood. Good for furniture, carving, steam bending. Hard wearing and it can be brought to a very smooth, hard shine finish.
OAK
A coarse-textured, straight-grained wood. Color: pinkish brown. A good choice for furniture, room interiors, carving and woodturning.
